The importance of food produced locally is gaining significance for economic and environmental reasons. Consumers are now demanding to know where their food comes from and that it is grown and reared in an environmentally responsible way.
- This directory has been created to raise awareness of locally produced foods. It is also about helping to promote a culture of sourcing and using of local, seasonal foods.
- It is for retailers and hospitality providers so that they can source produce reared, grown or processed locally and it is for producers to make potential buyers aware of what they produce and how to contact them.
- It will help establish better links and create a network linking producers, processors, wholesalers and retailers.
- There will be notice of forthcoming events, recipe ideas and details about produce in season.
